Eynsham Morris dance for the May, 2011

Still in the spirit of the recent royal wedding, the Eynsham Morris gathered in the village square this morning to dance. I love it that my village has its own very active and much-loved morris side. They bring a colour and English folk flavour to the village which I enjoy and am very proud of.

Local characters, old and young, donned their white shirts, red, white and blue ribbons, and feather-decked top hats…

…and put on their dancing shoes to take part in something that goes back hundreds of years.

There’s a lot of leaping…

…stomping…

and waving of colourful kerchiefs…

I like it when they get violent, here’s my young neighbour Sam Buss-Keating,  putting everything he’s got into the whacking-of-sticks dance:

It’s pretty energetic dancing which would explain why they consume so many locally brewed beverages.
